"Ancient Fruit" 48'x36" Oil on Canvas

"Best of Show" Madera Arts Council

For 6,000 years, humanity has shared a profound relationship with the olive, a fruit symbolizing peace, prosperity, and cultural identity. The artwork “Ancient Fruit” pays tribute to this bond, depicting weathered hands harvesting ripe olives, embodying generations of wisdom and tradition. It honors Mrs. Leonarda Clarizio Verni, renowned for her dedication to olive oil production and her ritual of rubbing excess oil into her elbows, symbolizing her deep connection to the product. The painting invites reflection on the olive tree's significance and the traditions shaping our culinary heritage, emphasizing the importance of honoring our ties to the earth and each other.

Started with a very rough drawing using a burnt twig, painted a low key

Verdaccio underpainting.

I always start with the farthest object first working my way to the front.

After the underpainting was complete I started introducing color

Painting the green that is an olive, first the low intensity in the back and working in a higher intensity in the olives closest to the viewer.

Finally glazing this bronzey flesh tone to the hands. I wanted especially weathered and stained hands from the skins of the olives. When I was young we would pick walnuts from a huge tree, my hands would be stained too.

Framed & ready to hang I will deliver & hang this award-winning painting anywhere in The Great San Jauquin Valley.

Ancient Fruit $3500.00
